Living in Shamelin

Shamelin lies in Cheras, a suburb and district that stretches from Kuala Lumpur’s south-east into Selangor’s Hulu Langat district. Taman Shamelin Perkasa and Pudu Ulu fall within the Cheras parliamentary seat on the Kuala Lumpur side. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is the local council for both.

The area’s history starts with Koperasi Shamelin Berhad, a cooperative founded on 13 April 1971. The 135 acres of land it acquired in Cheras in the early 1980s became Taman Shamelin Perkasa, with homes, shops and factories.

For time outdoors, there’s Taman Pudu Ulu, the 64-acre public park next to Taman Shamelin Perkasa. DBKL opened the park in 2007, with its second phase following in 2017. The MRT Kajang Line follows Jalan Cheras, one of the city’s main roads. You can also use the Sungai Besi Expressway’s Shamelin Perkasa interchange.

You can change between the MRT Kajang Line and the LRT Ampang Line at Aeon Maluri station on Jalan Cheras. The LRT station dates from 1996; the MRT station opened in July 2017. There’s a park-and-ride at the station, along with feeder buses.

By road

For Maluri and Shamelin, take the Jalan Cheras Lama turn-off on Jalan Cheras, Federal Route 1. The 28.9 km Sungai Besi Expressway connects Serdang and Ampang, with the Shamelin Perkasa interchange on its extension.
